Through songs, stories, games and writing, students: Develop independent Hebrew reading skills by reading simple Hebrew stories that slowly introduce the Hebrew letters and Hebrew vowels Learn to write in Hebrew print and cursive Develop independent Hebrew writing skills by keeping a Hebrew journal Learn to construct Hebrew sentences through journal writing Read, reflect on and discuss Hebrew language character development in stories.

Through songs, art explorations, stories, games and discussions, students: Identify the origins of Jewish holiday rituals within the Torah Engage in the study of Shabbat traditions through song and craft Learn, sing and lead morning prayers within their classroom community Gain a deeper understanding of basic morning prayers and their connection to daily life Prepare with excitement to receive their first siddur (prayer book) at the Chagigat HaSiddur (prayer book celebration)

        IsraelFirst graders deepen their feeling of personal connection to the land and people of Israel. Through songs, stories, and hands-on activities, students: Design maps of important places in Israel Explore the meaning behind each one of the national symbols Navigate the map of the Land of Israel, identifying its four main cities: Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and Beer Sheva. Learn about the prayer for State of Israel
