Meet our Head of School

Shalom and Welcome to Oakland Hebrew Day School!

OHDS is truly more than a school. We are a warm community of engaged, committed and inspired students, parents and educators. We come from different cities, different affiliations, different styles of Jewish observance. We share a common belief in the relevance and critical importance of nurturing a new generation of strong and inspired Jewish young people.

Every day of their OHDS journey, our students experience and engage in the rich traditions of our heritage, working to make sense of our powerful story and to find their unique identity within it, as Jews and as citizens of the world.

Through our dual language curriculum, Jewish children of every background are empowered to become literate in the historic language of our people, becoming strong readers and articulate writers in both English and Hebrew. From the very earliest grades our students build the academic skills and knowledge that lead to deep learning of our ancient texts while expanding their understanding of the natural world and exploring multiple approaches to solve complex problems. And every step of the way, our students are encouraged to explore and create as they express their unique understanding of the world.

At OHDS deep Jewish learning not only opens the door to strong Jewish engagement, but it helps us reach our goal of academic excellence.  When we combine Jewish pedagogy with inquiry based learning in math, language arts, social studies, science and art, we truly prepare our students with the skills and critical thinking they need to be strong and independent learners in high school, college and beyond.

Most importantly, an OHDS education builds a foundation of values, personal character and heart. Our students are deeply cared for, and they become people who care. Our students are seen and valued for who they are, and they learn to see and value themselves and others. Our students are supported and challenged to be their best, and they grow to take ownership of their learning and challenge themselves.

The best way to get to know our school is to come for a visit. Please reach out to schedule a tour and see the beauty, warmth and strength of OHDS for yourself!

B’Shalom,
