Kindergarten

The Kindergarten at OHDS blends academics and the arts with a strong focus on motor skill and physical development.  The program offers our budding students a structured, nurturing, and experiential environment as they gain new and important learning skills.

We prepare children for both reading and writing in English and Hebrew, through comprehensive exposure to both alphabets, as we emphasize learning print, phonemic awareness, phonics and simple blending.  Our math program involves hands-on activities and day-to-day work with numbers using both the general and Judaic calendar, counting the school days, creating graphs and sorting shapes. Our science and gardening curriculum is a hands-on experience that spans the year and connects to other areas of the learning day.

From the first day of Kindergarten, children learn to identify with their rich Judaic culture and heritage. Understanding that everyday is a gift from G-D, the students celebrate Jewish experiences through holiday education interwoven with music and art.

At OHDS, recess and play have an active role in the learning process. Through group activities and team-building skills, we foster within our students an educational framework and community. In our school, a child will grow to develop a healthy and respectful social environment.

“The community at OHDS and its teachers have created an environment for our children that has been safe, nurturing and educational.  An environment that has fostered their love for Israel and Judaism.  An environment that has given them, and us, a wonderful group of friends.”
