Q: Will my child feel uncomfortable or left out if we’re not Orthodox?

OHDS is a modern Orthodox school, and there are many families with different observance practices. Our school community includes families from a broad spectrum of Jewish backgrounds and practices, including modern Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, and Renewal families as well as families with no Jewish affiliation other than school.

Q: How can I be sure my child will receive in-depth General Studies when Judaic Studies and Hebrew are also taught?

OHDS provides children with a foundation of excellence in both General and Judaic studies, even with a limited number of hours in the day.  Since many of the academic concepts are integrated between these two areas, your child will develop a strong sense of Jewish identity and a solid grounding in all academic areas.

Q: Does OHDS offer before and after care for students?

Students can be dropped off at 8:00 a.m.  An extensive extra-curricular after school club program is available to our students.  Carpentry, cooking, art, rocketry, martial arts, gymnastics, dance, computer lab, music exploration, mad science, drama, sports, and tennis are just a few of the clubs offered throughout the school year.  Club selection varies each semester.  Kindergartners are welcome to stay for after care from 2:30 – 3:30 at no additional charge.

Q: What about music, art, physical education and computers?

OHDS offers four specialty classes taught by specialists in their fields.  Instrumental music instruction begins in the 3rd grade.  In addition to the regular weekly visits to the computer lab and art room, middle school students have the option to visit these classes for electives once a week.
