Mark Shinar Beginning in 2003, Mark Shinar assumed the role of Director of Oakland Hebrew Day School. Throughout his time at the school, Mark continues to enjoy and value the opportunity to work with teachers, parents, students, and community leaders to grow and advance the school’s modern Orthodox mission to serve the broad spectrum of the Bay Area Jewish community. Before moving to Northern California, Mark lived and worked in Riverdale, NY teaching 5th grade General Studies and 8th grade English Literature in the S/A/R Academy. While there, he completed a Masters degree in Private School Administration from Columbia University Teachers' College. Mark holds a BA in English Literature and Theater from Yeshiva University. Currently, he is working to earn an Ed.D in School Leadership from Mills College in Oakland. Mark began his journey into Jewish education at the young age of 18 when his summers were spent in Camp Moshava working as part of the camp's administrative team and developing dynamic informal educational programming. To this day, Mark, his wife, and their twin boys still enjoy their July in Moshava where Mark works as a “camp parent” and advisor to the campers and staff. |
